Makkah Accord: Pakistan, Turkiye, Saudi Arabia to meet in Istanbul for first session

Shafaqna Pakistan: The inaugural meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee formed under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, also known as the Makkah Accord, is scheduled to take place in Istanbul, Türkiye, on Monday (today).

Pakistan will be represented at the meeting by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting will also bring together the foreign ministers, defence ministers and chiefs of general staff of Türkiye and Saudi Arabia.

The meeting is expected to provide an important platform for the three countries to discuss strategic, political and defence cooperation under the newly established agreement.

Pakistan’s participation reflects its historic bonds of friendship with the brotherly countries of Türkiye and Saudi Arabia and its desire for lasting regional peace and stability.

Meanwhile, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has reached Turkiye to participate in the first high-level meeting under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Turkiye and Saudi Arabia.

The visit comes at a significant time for regional security, with the three countries moving to strengthen defence coordination under the agreement signed earlier this month.

According to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Asim Munir’s visit is aimed at further strengthening defence and strategic cooperation between Pakistan and Turkiye.

During his stay, he is expected to hold important meetings with Turkish political and military leadership to discuss matters of mutual interest, regional security and bilateral defence cooperation.
