Shafaqna Pakistan: At least 11 people, including eight children, were killed on Monday after a powerful explosion at a firecracker factory in northern India, police said.
The blast occurred in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district and was so severe that several nearby houses collapsed, local media reported. Most of the victims were residents of the affected homes.
According to the Hindustan Times, the children killed in the incident were aged between four and 13. Police officer Satnarayan Prajapat confirmed the death toll and said several other people were injured.
Authorities had yet to determine the cause of the explosion, while an investigation into the incident was underway.
Industrial accidents are common in India, often due to poor adherence to safety regulations and weak enforcement. In March, a fire at a fireworks factory in western India killed 17 people.
The following month, eight people were killed when a firecracker storage facility in southern India caught fire.
