Shafaqna Pakistan:- The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State meeting began on Tuesday in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, bringing together leaders from across the Eurasian bloc.
Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov welcomed the participating heads of state and government at the Yntymak Ordo complex, the venue for the summit, before the leaders gathered for the traditional group photograph.
In his opening address, Japarov noted that the summit coincides with the SCO’s 25th anniversary. He said this year’s theme, “Together for Sustainable Peace, Development and Prosperity,” reflects the organisation’s broader objectives.
Japarov said the SCO had transformed from an arrangement primarily focused on border security into an influential international organisation with a growing role on the global stage.
The president said member states account for more than 40% of the world’s population and around a quarter of global gross domestic product (GDP).
