Shafaqna Pakistan: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has announced that the party will stage a protest in Islamabad on September 27 to demand its rights, insisting that the demonstration will remain peaceful.
Speaking to the media in Islamabad, Gohar welcomed the Islamabad High Court’s ruling concerning PTI founder Imran Khan and said the party was seeking only the implementation of court orders allowing its leaders to meet him.
He claimed that PTI leaders had been prevented from meeting Imran Khan for the past 320 days.
Gohar said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi would lead the September 27 demonstration. “We are not coming to conquer Islamabad, but to seek our rights,” he said, adding that the party would neither use state or provincial resources nor attempt to force its way through the gates of Adiala Jail.
The PTI chairman said the party had approached courts and also raised its concerns in parliament and the Senate, but its grievances had not been addressed.
He called on the state to take steps to reduce political tensions and demanded that Imran Khan be shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.
Gohar said PTI was a political party that wanted Pakistan to progress and maintained that it had never sought to obstruct important diplomatic developments.
He also called for political dialogue, warning that closing political avenues would further restrict the system.
Gohar said PTI would invite other political parties to join the protest, while the opposition alliance would continue to hold the government accountable inside parliament and jointly raise public issues outside the legislature.
