Shafaqna Pakistan: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Tuesday called for a debate in the National Assembly over Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s remarks about the failure of the system.
Speaking to the media in London, Bilawal said Naqvi was expressing his own views when discussing the system’s shortcomings, just as he was voicing his own opinion. He also criticised the interior minister for rarely attending National Assembly sessions and urged him to participate more regularly.
Bilawal said inflation, unemployment and poverty could not be addressed by creating new provinces, arguing instead that democracy and empowering citizens were the solution. He noted that the Punjab and Sindh assemblies had unanimously passed resolutions on the matter, stressing that the PPP respected the views of the public and elected representatives.
He called for the issue to be debated in parliament, saying the opinions of both elected representatives and the people should be given due consideration.
Bilawal said the fate of the country should not be left in the hands of a few businessmen. He reiterated that strengthening democracy and ensuring people’s participation in decision-making were essential to addressing the country’s economic and social challenges.
