Shafaqna Pakistan: Two Pakistan Navy personnel were martyred while performing maritime patrol duties to safeguard security at sea, the Navy’s Directorate-General of Public Relations (DGPR) said on Wednesday.
In a statement posted on X, the Navy identified the martyred personnel as Shoaibur Rehman (PMA-IV) and Ghufran Nasar (PMT-II), saying both “embraced martyrdom” while carrying out their assigned duties.
Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf expressed deep grief over the loss of the two sailors and paid tribute to their dedication, service and sacrifice.
Senior Pakistan Navy officials attended the funeral prayers of the martyred personnel and met with their families, the statement added.
The incident comes as the Pakistan Navy continues efforts to safeguard the country’s maritime interests amid a changing regional security environment.
In March, the Navy launched Operation Muhafizul Bahr to counter what it described as “multidimensional threats” to national shipping and maritime trade.
The operation was launched in response to evolving maritime security conditions and concerns over potential disruptions to critical sea lanes.
Around 90 per cent of Pakistan’s trade is conducted by sea, making the security and uninterrupted operation of maritime routes vital to the country’s economy and national interests.
