Shafaqna Pakistan: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has announced a long march towards Islamabad on September 20, warning of a major street mobilisation if the government fails to withdraw the petroleum levy.
Speaking at a public gathering in Gujranwala, the JI chief called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to recognise growing public concerns and take immediate steps to provide relief to citizens.
Hafiz Naeem said abolishing the petroleum levy was the government’s only viable option, warning that failure to remove the tax would shift the issue to the streets of Islamabad.
He said a large number of people would participate in the march and enter the federal capital from different directions.
Hafiz Naeem said that Jamaat-e-Islami had taken to the streets to fight for the rights of the country’s 250 million people.
He also criticised the government’s position on petrol prices, saying the government had claimed helplessness regarding a reduction in the price of petrol.
