US legislator asks Pakistan, Türkiye to back Saudi Arabia against Houthi attacks

Shafaqna Pakistan: US Republican Representative Joe Wilson on Tuesday called on Türkiye and Pakistan to cooperate with Saudi Arabia against the Houthis after Saudi coalition forces said they had intercepted a Houthi drone over Makkah.

In a post on X, Wilson said the Houthis, whom he described as an Iranian-backed group controlling parts of Yemen, had targeted Muslim holy sites in Saudi Arabia.

“We stand with our partners in Saudi Arabia against the hateful Houthi aggression,” he said.

Wilson further said that if the “Mecca Alliance” was to have meaning, Türkiye and Pakistan should work alongside Saudi Arabia to defeat the Houthis and help free Yemen from Iranian influence.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar, has said Pakistan declares its full support for Saudi Arabia’s defensive measures against Houthi attacks.

Pakistani delegate Asim Iftikhar, while addressing the United Nations Security Council meeting on the situation in Yemen, condemned the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and expressed concern over the situation in Yemen.

He said that Pakistan supports the sovereignty and security of Saudi Arabia, adding that attacks in Bab al-Mandab will affect the world economy.

On the other hand, the Yemeni delegate called on the international community to take steps to stop the supply of weapons to the Houthis, and described the Houthis’ aggressive actions as a serious threat to regional security.
