Another successive civilian government is in place in Afghanistan. Ashraf Ghani seems quite committed to the development of Pakistan but a decade long civil has left Afghanistan in tattered. Ashraf Ghani the new boss has numerous challenges to steer country out of crisis that has been fighting wars since last three decades. Definitely it will take too long to bring back Afghanistan on way of progress but someone will have to take the step finally and Ashraf Ghani is the most suitable for this task.
The biggest and foremost challenge to Afghanistan is a stable economy. With the withdrawal of foreign troops and artificial injection of money from the huge foreign presence and aid is withdrawn. In the best of circumstances, the unity government’s ambitious plans for natural resource exploitation and infrastructure development will yield growth and jobs after several years. Popular discontent could come sooner. The reduced external aid may not be sufficient to meet essential needs and expectations of Afghanistan’s population. The other challenge is widespread cooption from legislator to judicial officials corruption has shattered the entire system. Eradication of corruption is also a mammoth challenge for the Government and the local war lords who are major contributor of drugs and weapons are big hurdles in way to eliminate corruption. Ashraf Ghani will have to take big steps because he has a big support along as Abdullah Abdullah his main rival is also part of the Government. It is golden opportunity for Afghan government to take the initial step towards a prosperous Afghanistan.
