While the government seems to have survived the months of dharnas, yet missed the message that should have been drawn from these protest movements because they did have a point after all: the incompetent governance of the central and provincial governments in Pakistan. And the same situation is interpreted differently by quite experienced and mature people as a part of great chess game going on in this region to fulfillenforcement of foreign agenda, re-write the geographical boundaries to weaken a particular religion which has become a thorn in their eyes.
Among the complaints that are made against this government – elected or non-elected- is the incapability to appoint heads of premier institution which renders those institutions dormant and inactive. Another point that is projected in domestic and international media incapability to meet the challenges from Polio which can cripple hundreds if not thousands of children in Pakistan if the infants in their early age are not administered the required vaccine. The WHO and western countries that have for years been fighting against Polio and have been able to defeat this crippling disease intheir countries are now not only worried that all their efforts may be rendered useless. As if from Pakistan a new wave of infections is going to sweep through the now globalized world.
Pakistan refuses to understand that and out of that ignorance applies measures that are counter-productive instead of just making sure that the children are vaccinated. This stupidity was noticed when airline staff started forced passengers young and old equally-in an airliner before departure at Karachi airport to drink polio drops. A Chinese doctor friend Dr. Gou Jeng while travelling from Karachi to Beijing was forced to drink as well; she protested against them in her full voice calling its consequences as dangerous for the body hormones of adult people. Despite this being well-known for months if not years both central and provincial governments continue to force young and old people to face this malady to obtain an unwanted piece of paper known in Pakistan as polio vaccination certificate.
Dr. Shakil Afridi is to be blamed for politicizing vaccination campaigns on the desire of his CIA benefactors to make sure that Osama bin Laden who was reported to be dead since 2007 was living in area near by PMA and since then the health workers are attacked because of insufficient security arrangements or the health workers are not paid for their services and refuse to work any further under such dangerous and volatile circumstances. This is true, by the way, for Imran Khan’s PTI-ruled KPK as much as for the other provinces which shows that his priorities are as mistaken as those of the sitting rulers.
Another problem that is missed out by the government is the fact that children are dying in Thar from hunger, malnutrition and the non-availability of drinking water, their cattle are dying due the non-availability of fodder, the Sindh government is harping on the tune that everything is under control and no conditions of drought were reported while their favourite bosses in district and provincial administration resigned once the situation was aggravated beyond repair to save their own skin from accountability, while the same situation is now feared for Cholistan and elsewhere children are dying in hospitals because of negligence and missing medical support. The next generation of Pakistanis that should provide relief to the country from this mess is neglected, is dying and crippled while the PML(N) is only interested in keeping itself and its cronies in power.
This malady can also be seen from the unimaginative ideas that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif voiced at the SAARC meeting in Kathmandu. A ‘dispute-free region’ as demanded by our Prime Minister is an impossible idea given the situation between India and Pakistan that again rendered the SAARC efforts useless. We have been suggesting to Mian Nawaz Sharif government who has been first showing fancy towards Turkey as he is doing now with China to at least take a leaf of Turkish reform when with one executive order Turkey struck-off six last digits from its exchange rate against dollars at that time. Who stops our rulers to do the same if they are serious about poverty reduction and providing genuine relief to people of Pakistan? Can’t they strike off only one digits from the exchange rate to bring dollar exchange rate to $ 1 = Pakistani rupee 10/- This would enhance his image in the eyes of people. But a weak and weakened by the dharnas Prime Minster Nawaz Sharif with his fixation on his own political survival might not be able to produce anything constructive at home and continues playing like a pawn on the chess board while the confusion is becoming more and more confounded; that is exactly the point Imran Khan making in his dharna.
