SHAFAQNA PAKISTAN (Shia News Agency)
It seems that concept of conventional wars have been changed because now rather than fighting on their grounds countries chose another land for the battle ground and show their power to each other, destroy their infra structure, kill their citizens and themselves remain untouched. What was going on in Syria earlier and now in Yemen is the story of those wars that are being fought between two old rivals on other grounds.
Saudia and Iran are ready for another proxy war in Yemen and calling spade a spade Saudi Sheikhs want to fight this battle while putting gun on Pakistan’s shoulder. But how we can forget that the battles we fight at home are crucial to our future as a developing nation, and we cannot afford the ‘luxury’ of going off to fight another’s war, particularly when the cost is likely to be more than just blood and treasure.
Thus far, the government is “considering” the Saudi request for assistance and support, and our response has been verbal and non-committal in terms of what Pakistan may or may not commit. Pakistan cannot afford to alienate a close ally, and there are thousands of Pakistani migrant workers in Yemen that we have a commitment to support.
Saudia should forget that we supported it in 1980s, a lot of water has passed under the bridges now, Pakistan itself is at brink of destruction how it can defend Saudia?.
