Use of drones has become widespread across the world. The people of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia and Yemen are quite aware of the drones. According to a study drones have been the biggest cause of civilian causalities, furthermore in areas where drones are hitting militants, people and especially children are traumatized. The sound of Drones has number of psychological effects on Children and as they hear the sounds of dreams they become frightened. Though there is sheer criticism on use of drones yet US always rebuffed this criticism by declaring it collateral damage.
In Pakistan drones have been authorized by Bush administration in 2005 but at that time the intensity of drone strikes was less than that of their intensity during Obama’s administration. “According to figures from human rights organisations, more than 3,500 people have been killed in Pakistan alone, including 178 children; these are just official figures. Unofficial figures put the civilian death toll much higher”
Similarly, the number of casualties in Yemena, Afghanistan and Somalia is above 50,000 with more than 5% innocent civilians.
It is high time to stop collateral damage and Drones must be replaced with some other sophisticated technology to reduce the innocent deaths.
