The war on terror whose history in fact goes back to Afghan Jihad has left Pakistan unstable in all the terms including economically, socially and defence. Pakistan has a history of blunders and the greatest blunder among all was that it fought not only one but two proxy wars. Though Pakistan has survived all the shocks but it has been left behind all the neighboring countries. We paid a huge cost of these blunders. Now once again its foes in the disguise of friends want Pakistan to engage another proxy war. But the truth is that Pakistan cannot afford being part of another proxy war and must carefully examine the pros and cons of our role in this crisis. Furthermore Pakistan must also remain sensitive to Iranian concerns. As a country and as a nation, at this critical phase in our history, we cannot also just leave ourselves to the vagaries of time or at the mercy of vested interests inimical to the very existence of Pakistan as a strong and stable, independent state.
Mian Nawaz Sharif should rise above the vested interests before jumping into another proxy war an if this time Pakistan becomes a part of this war, it would certainly disintegrate as it is already facing Balochistan separatist movement, insurgency in tribal area, unbridled sectarianism and other social problems. It is time to focus on our land rather than committing another blunder.
