Nawaz Sharif’s recent visit to Saudia was of great importance. Most of the scholars were of the view that Saudia wants Pakistan to support him against increasing threat of Daesh and Shiite Houthis in Yement. Today foreign office’s statement has made it clear that Saudia is keen to seek Pakistan’s help against looming threat. “Pakistan said on Thursday it was examining Saudi Arabia’s request to join the Gulf-led operation against Shia Houthi rebels in Yemen”, reported dawn. Adviser to Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz confirmed that top Saudi officials had contacted the Pakistani leadership requesting it to join the Yemen operation. A decision has not yet been taken, Aziz said. According to foreign office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam
“ the Pakistani mission in Yemen has been placed on alert and has been asked to keep in touch with the Pakistan community residing there”.
If Pakistan sends its troop or helps Saudia on others ways to counter the threat of Shiite Houthis, it would be definitely a great mistake. Iran-allied forces are helping Shiite Houthis to counter Daesh and control the Yemen, now if Pakistan assists Saudia, the ties between Iran and Pakistan would definitely go sour that can hamper the interests of Pakistan in neighboring country Afghanistan. Furthermore Iran has its influence in some parts of the Balochistan, it would create trouble for Pakistan. Apart from this Iran enjoy cordial ties with India and it would definitely back India as a regional power against Pakistan. The most important aspect of this campaign would be effect on Pakistan’s offensive against terrorists. As Pakistan is fighting and intense battle against TTP terrorists, it would affect the campaign because Pakistan’s attention would divert on two divergent issues. Pakistan should rethink its approach before poking nose in Middle East’s affairs.
