In recent blitz by Pakistan army fighter jets, number of terrorist has been killed in Tirah Valley. There are two dimensions of this drive; one is in the form of formal attacks on declared locations of the militants like Khyber-1, Tirah Valley and NWA. The other dimension is the intelligence based operations in urban areas, where the intelligence agencies take action against those targets which are not very prominent and operate from within the people through covert activities and misleading the masses against the state and society of Pakistan.
Pakistan has been fighting this war since 2001 but it miserably failed to eradicate terrorism, rather the terrorist activities increased manifolds rather than reducing. The only reason was the double standards of military and political leadership who ran with hares and hunted with the hounds. Pakistan lost over 54,000 people and over $100 billion on economic grounds. Terrorist activities not only destroyed economic activities in Pakistan but also hindered foreign direct investment in the country. Perhaps Pakistan would have controlled these fistful terrorists long ago but all the previous military and civilian leadership lacked the will. General Raheel Sharif in short span of time proved that he had the will to eradicate the militancy and he has done to a great extent. This is golden opportunity for Pakistan to purge the land from terrorists and if Pakistan lost this chance, it cannot eradicate it for years.
