Saulat Mirza, in a video statement aired on Geo News, hurled startling allegations on Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and its top leadership, just a few hours before his execution was scheduled to take place on Thursday at 5:30AM. Mirza’s execution has now been postponed for 72 hours. Mirza said he was an MQM worker and received direct orders from MQM leader Babar Ghauri to assassinate KESC chief Shahid Hamid. MQM rebut the video and called it a pack of lies. This video raises certain important questions which need to be answered. The timing of the broadcast of the video, the officials who allowed Mirza video to be broadcast on TV or who gave instructions that the video should be aired on TV, and any linkage to this with the raid on Nine-Zero all need to come into the open. A summary report relating to a stay in his execution for 90 days has now been sent by the interior minister to the prime minister for his consideration. The summary advises that a Joint Investigation Team should be set up to examine the allegations that Mirza has made.
According to law experts this video carries no legal weight. Now it time for the government or para-military forces to constitute a joint investigation team with consensus of MQM to investigate these accusations and if these accusations are found true, the guilty should be dealt with iron hands and if these allegations are found false, Sault Mirza should be charged with heavy fine along with death sentence that has already been handed to him.
