Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is meeting Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif today.
The meeting is expected to discuss the internal security situation in the country as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) protesters continue to clash with police in Islamabad’s red zone. Army chief General Raheel Sharif will also brief the prime minister on decisions taken during the Corps Commanders meeting.
On Sunday, the Corps Commanders meeting chaired by Army chief General Raheel Sharif decided that further use of force would only aggravate the situation. The meeting once again reiterated that the “situation should be resolved politically without wasting any time and without recourse to violent means.”
The ISPR statement on the meeting ended on the note that the “army remains committed to playing its part in ensuring security of the state and will never fall short of meeting national aspirations.”
