The government of Pakistan might be keen to eliminate corruption from the country and therefore might have established various such institutions like NAB, Ehtesab Commissions, and the department of Anti Corruption etc., to root out corruption from the society. But despite governmental efforts, corruption is increasing and spreading day by day in the country like an epidemic disease. The reason is that this country is lacking implementation of the rule of law in true spirit.Though in papers the rules of law certainly exist but practically, it is totally dead but today mighty is always right is dominating in all walks of life in this country. The politicians, the bureaucracy, the army generals, the landlord and the capitalist class are always considered supreme and above the law. Social injustices, victimization of the poor’s, class discrimination and merit violation have made the common people violent and unfaithful. The growing suicide among the youth and poor families is the outcome of such deprivation and in -availability of justice and merit for the common people.
Lack of cheap and easy access to justice is another obstacle in the way of dominating merit. Lawlessness, nepotism, unavailability of justice, violation of merit, discrimination between have and have not’s for social services and basic needs have made living in Pakistan hard and crucial. The poor and the low grade government employees not having any political connections are accountable and are kept behind the bars for any misconduct and illegalities and actions are taken immediately against them but the powerful bureaucrats, army generals, and influential politicians are always above the law and or perhaps never accountable for their huge embezzlements and open corruptions. It is worth mentioning that as per media reports, $ 43 billion has been transferred by the Pakistanis’ abroad for investment in real estate in one year, who transferred this huge amount and how and what are their source of income? These are the questions, which needs answers but not possible to be answered, because those who transferred this huge money are not ordinary people but are well connected influentials. It is further added that several well connected and key positions holders have transferred billions of dollars in their Switzerland’s Bank accounts, the media has been regularly pinpointing it out but till this day no such enquiry or accountability has been done. Various politically known people have opened their businesses in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Malaysia, Turkey, and U.K etc., but they all are above the law and all such organizations like NAB, Anti Corruption, Ehtesab Commissionetc., are helpless and could never recovered a single penny from such influential’s. The media was also high lighting embezzlements in the power renting case as well but nothing substantially has been done in this case. Open horse trading in the Senate Elections since last few years has remained a big issue but no action has ever been initiatedagainst the involved politicians.
It is further worth mentioning that due to lack of true implementation of the rule of law, various mega corruption cases are still pending with the NAB etc., since last several years. It will not be out of place to mention that today oil, gas and electricity theft cases are openly done but only those who are regularly and honestly paying bills are further targeted and victimized for the recovery of the totalun paid consumption.
