In the wake of the controversy over the removal of Palestinian flag from the eight grade’s social studies book and mentioning the Zionist regime’s flag instead, the Egyptian Ministry of Education announced that a specialized technical committee will be set up to examine the issue.

According to Reza Hejazi, head of the Egyptian General Education Department, said the foreign book, which included the flag of Israel, did not obtain the distribution permission from the Ministry of Education and therefore was not validated by the ministry. The book titled “Our Arab World: Geography and Islamic civilisation” included topics pertaining to the Arab world but also had multiple mistakes.

Hejazi pointed out that the technical committee referred this matter to the General Department of Legal Affairs in order to take all legal actions against the publishing house of the book.

The Zionist embassy in Cairo also criticized media outlets, social activists and university professors for their statement on the issue, announcing that it regrets to witness this controversy after 40 years from the visit of Egypt’s president al-Sadat to Jerusalem, which meant an official acknowledgment by Egypt with the State of Israel.
