Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif might become the next prime minister of Pakistan, according to the reports coming from London where an important meeting of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders, including Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, with ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif, took place on Saturday.

It was also reported that Kulsoom Nawaz won’t be coming back to the country for six months at least due to her health condition while the ex-PM will stay in London for three to four months as well.

It is interesting that after the ouster of Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif was given two lollipops first that he would replace Nawaz Sharif as Prime Minster but he was rejected.

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif “smartly deprived” his younger brother Shahbaz an opportunity to become prime minister because of “family politics” despite nominating the Punjab chief minister as his eventual successor, according to some PML-N leaders.

After his disqualification by the Supreme Court in the Panama Papers case on July 28 Nawaz Sharif had announced that Shahbaz Sharif would be prime minister for remaining 10-month tenure of the party after interim arrangements of 45-day for which Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was elected premier however later Nawaz Sharif endorsed Khaqan Abbasi for the remaining period.

After that, it was decided that Shahbaz Sharif would be made next party chief but he was again smartly deprived of the slot and a less known worker Yaqoob Khan took the charge.

After that there were rumors that internal rifts among both brothers are deepening and Shahbaz Sharif may announce a forward bloc, however it seems that Nawaz Sharif has smartly convinced Shahbaz Sharif to stay with him by giving him another lollipop of premiership slot.
