According to Amnesty International, the biggest obstacle to Saudi Arabia’s progress is the systematic violations of human rights in the country.

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jabir has announced new plans for fundamental changes in the country at the Davos summit. How ever, the changes that have taken place so far are superficial and serious cases of human rights violations continue to be a major obstacle to a real reform in Saudi Arabia.

According to Amnesty International, If Saudi Arabia desires to meet its ambitions, it should take these steps:

1- Stop the crackdown on activists, journalists, academics and opposition

2 – Ending Discriminatory Measures Against Women

  1. End the harassment of the Shiite minority

4 – Abandoning the death penalty and stopping torture

“Saudi Arabia, on the one hand, is advertising for increasing aid to Yemen and, on the other hand, it bombards schools, hospitals and residential homes. The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen violates international law, and Amnesty International holds documents attesting to violations of international law by the Saudi-led coalition,” added the organization.
