The Jamaat-e-Islami Multan has demanded the Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif to withdraw Metro Bus project and spend the budget allocated for it on Health, education and other welfare sectors. Addressing a news conference here at local JI office on Saturday, JI Multan Ameer Asif Mehmood Akhwani and other office-bearers said that the Metro Bus project would deprive thousands of residents of Multan of their jobs while demolition of a number of roads and bridges would stumble business activities. They pointed out that Nishtar Hospital was established when population of the city was only 0.5 million while now the local population had surpassed five million mark. They demanded construction of a big hospital in each town of Multan, a cancer hospital, a medical facility for mentally retarded, extension of Cardiology and Children hospitals and availability of medicines as well as medical staff at all rural and basic health units. They further pointed out that the sewerage and sanitation system had decayed, asking the government to lay new sewerage lines besides repair and maintenance of water filtration plants. They asked the government to launch road widening projects and avoid costly projects like flyovers. They further demanded sports facilities for all schools and colleges of Multan and asked the government to shift women and engineering universities to their campuses forthwith. They said that cadet college and zoo projects were delayed by the government since long, demanding their accomplishment.
They warned that no one would be allowed to rob Multanites and the residents of this town would fully resist if the government tried to withdraw funds allocated for Metro project. They demanded that the new projects with the Metro funds should be approved forthwith. Secretary general of JI Multan Dr Aurangzeb Shahzad and media coordinator South Punjab Kanwar Siddique were also present on this occasion.
