Prostitution is considered a crime in most countries of the world. It is considered an illegal trade in which women sell their bodies in exchange for money. Many women are forced into prostitution and they are sold openly in the marketplace for sexual gratification. Although they are legally outlawed, the number of sex workers in the country has increased over the past few years.
Growing unemployment and inflation and the resulting rise in poverty have led many down this road. Increasingly, young women across the country are putting their bodies up for sale in the “flesh markets”. It is the oldest profession in the world, but most countries have declared it illegal and punishable with imprisonment and fine. Even then the practice is going on with impunity. It is also on the rise in Pakistan. The police provide cover to the influential people and owners of prostitution dens operating in the big cities of Pakistan. Such extra-marital relationships are dangerous for health with the spread of HIV/AIDS, a deadly disease of modern times. The women are more prone to these diseases. The implementation of laws is needed to check this phenomenon and stop the exploitation of women.
