Mojtaba Khaledi said that the flight engineer, one of the people who survived the tragic event and is in hospital, said that 16 people were on board.

‘No information has yet been received on death of people in residential areas adjacent to the airport,’ Khaledi said.

He went on to say that the house the plane hit to was empty.

Investigations are underway to find those who were injured or killed in the accident, he added.

An official of Iran Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) said on condition of anonymity that the Boeing-707 was mistakenly landed at Fath Airport in Karaj, while the pilot could not control the plane on the runway.

The pilot was not able to control the plane while boarding the Fath Airport runway and the plane caught fire after hitting the walls of the airport in the vicinity of a residential area, the official added.

Speaking to Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), CAO spokesman Reza Jafarzadeh said several teams have been dispatched to the crash scene.
