The world may change but the nature of India-Pakistan conflict can never. It is ingrained and both are transferring it from generation to generation. When Indian army Chief General Dalbir Singh assumed his office, on very first day he issued a stern warning to Pakistan referring to alleged beheading incidents of soldiers, stating that the said actions would get an “intense and immediate” response. Border skirmishes between India and Pakistan is a routine matter. Both the countries off and on violate border laws for political mileage on specific occasions. In a recent statement Pakistan’s powerful army chief chief General Raheel Sharif warned India of a “befitting response” to alleged provocation along the Line of Control (LoC), just days before the arrival of foreign secretary S Jaishankar. “Repeated Indian ceasefire violations on the Working Boundary and the LoC in recent past was a distraction for Pakistan from campaign versus terrorism and it affects regional stability,” a statement issued by the military qouted Sahrif as saying.
Issuing such statements is a part of their professional life but issuing such statements at such occasions when both the countries are going to resume dialogue shows that something is wrong in the bottom. Infact military’s of both sides do not want peace between both the countries, they want a constant animosity. The major chunk of defence budget of both the militaries is because of this animosity. Now if the issue is resolve the role of both India and Pakistan’s army would reduce to minimum, which they never wanted.
