Pakistan’s interior ministry in a statement said that “the outlawed organisation Lashkar-i-Jhangvi (LJ) has an affiliation with Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) according to a report published on BBC.” The Ministry of Interior said in a letter sent to all provinces in the country that “ the banned organisation sought help from Al Qaeda but upon refusal LJ formed a nexus with TTP.” It is something people and Government already knew but it was adamant for a long time to confess it. Yes, it is first time that Government of Pakistan confessed it. It is quite evident that this confession is due to pressure from Khakis because number of incumbent government MNA’s and MPA’s have links with LeJ, therefore it was hesitant to confess this fact. Couple of years ago the security establishment in all parties conference admitted that holding a dialogue with the TTP would be like negotiating with the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) since there was barely any difference between the two al-Qaeda-linked groups. Both TTP and LeJ use the services and expertise of imported Al-Qaeda militants from Central Asia and the Middle East. Both are hard-line Sunni (Salafi and Takfiri) extremists. Both have significant former Jehadi elements from the Punjab in their rank and file. Both have direct and indirect, past and present, operational links to the Afghan Taliban in Afghanistan and FATA. Most significantly, both have operational links to Pakistan’s military intelligence agencies because of their past anti-India jehadi politics in Kashmir and current anti-American tactical alliances with Afghan Taliban in Waziristan.
What we have to see that whether government takes a concrete action against LJ or not. If this remains to a mere confession there was no use of it because it has been known long time ago. The need of the hour is that Government should conceive a solid plan to unearth LeJ and In order to combat them effectively, it is important to understand their strategic alliances and tactical links.
