Indonesia uses fighter jets to wake people for Sehri

Shafaqna Pakistan: In an unprecedented move, Indonesia has decided to wake up Muslims for Sehri meal using fighter jets in the month of Ramazan.

In contrast, despite the presence of modern devices, dhool wala (drum beaters) every year help faithfuls get up in Pakistan to keep the tradition alive.

On Wednesday, Indonesian Air Force in a post on the microblogging website, Twitter, announced that it will participate in the country’s tradition of waking up people during the fasting month of Ramazan for Sheri meal, reported The Jakarta Post.

Jet fighter training would be conducted in several cities on Java Island, namely Surabaya in East Java, Surakarta, Klaten and Sragen in Central Java and Yogyakarta, officials said in a tweet.

God willing, we will carry out the tradition to wake people up for Sehri using fighter aircraft,” the tweet reads.

Air Force spokesperson Col Sus M Yuris said the mission was not merely for  for maintaining tradition, but to make sure that air force personnel do not train during fast.

Fighter pilots are not recommended to operate aircraft when they are in the state of having low blood sugar levels,” he said.

Indonesia is the world’s largest Muslim country with a population of around 267 million with over 80% of them adherent of Islam.
