The only development in Baldia town factory case is that Government has put the names of accused on ECL. The chief of the main accused Party MQM, Altaf Hussain has said that investigations in the Baldia Town factory fire should be conducted by a committee comprising three honest and reliable military officers. And if anybody is found guilty, he should be hanged in front of the factory premises. But at the same time, MQM leaders expressed concern that the MQM might be implicated in the heinous act. It appears that efforts are being made to hush up the case by maneuvering the judicial process. The PPP, whose image is tarnished because of corruption, appears to have agreed to take MQM nominees in the Sindh Cabinet, and the MQM is keen to join the Sindh cabinet to avert the indictment in the Baldia Factory case. Whenever the MQM found itself in trouble, they joined the government.
If the political parties continue to protect criminal elements in their parties, the situation in Karachi cannot be controlled. To ensure rule of law and dispensation of swift justice, it is imperative that political expediencies be shunned. Baldia Town Factory inferno incident is a horrifying incident and vivid example of barbaric act of “Bhatta Mafia” of Karachi, and people of Pakistan must not forget it till this case is taken to its logical conclusion. MQM should not conceal the facts and handover the culprits to LEAs for if it is found guilty, there are chances that history may repeat it.
