Russia and Ukraine: Better sense prevails

SHAFAQNA PAKISTAN (Shia News Agency)

Russia, who is in the eye of storm in these days after Ukraine conflict seems to resolve this issue. Russian economy is in nosedive after US slapped numerous sanctions against the former USSR. In this war thousands of Ukrainians have been killed, and hundreds of thousands more have been turned into refugees in their own country.  However after the Minsk agreement both the countries should renounce the violence against each other.

An early test of the extent of the Kremlin’s commitment to the Minsk agreement should be whether it frees Nadiya Savchenko, Ukraine’s first woman fighter pilot. Savchenko has been on a hunger strike in Russia for more than two months to protest her patently illegal incarceration on charges. I hope that the new agreement will last, finally bringing peace to Ukraine. But such an outcome is unlikely, given that the agreement lacks any enforcement mechanism, such as the automatic eviction of Russia from the SWIFT financial transfer system should it renege on any aspect of the agreement. However both the sides should abide by this agreement for the peaceful solution of this issue. If any country breaches this agreement, World should sever the economic and diplomatic with the country.
