Pakistan’s senate elections are in the offing. There is no change in the same old bad ways of dynastic political parties. The same corrupt and old faces would make in Senate. Most of the candidates are put forth on the basis of kinship, loyalty and cash. These three things would be the only traits of newly elected senators. The nation unveils the harsh reality of old bad ways of legislators and political parties by writing that “On top of that, rumours of MPAs and MNAs selling their votes for hard cash abound. Amounts ranging from Rs. 15 million to Rs. 50 million are being widely quoted as the going rate for a senate seat”. While such electoral practices are obviously damaging to the spirit of democracy, it is also distorting image of the country. While it is the constitutional right of all representative political parties to nominate Senate candidates of their choice, this right must be used in true faith to constitution.
The senate elections give a true glimpse and real face of democracy in Pakistan. Pakistan democracy is nothing more than a show of cash and dynasty. Where constitution of Pakistan gives right to every citizen to contest general and senate polls, there is no chance of a lower class candidate to become a senator for neither has money not political party’s support. It simply means government of the landlords, by the landlords and for the landlords.
