National accountability bureau, established by Pervez Mushrraf to deal with political corruption has just become a symbol of incompetence. Musharraf used NAB to wage war on the entire political class save those who were allied to him. Under the PPP it became a mostly dormant organisation as the party took its policy of political reconciliation to mean no corrupt politician should be made to pay for his or her crimes. That NAB has on occasion had corrupt heads of its own has further hurt the organisation. Now it has earned a rare stinging rebuke from the Supreme Court, with chairman Qamar Zaman being accused of running a lawless organisation that wastes billions of rupees without achieving any results. Nab has failed to arrest and bring to justice number of culprits. On top it has failed arrest the accused in a housing society fraud case. It could not investigate cases against PPP chief Asif Ali Zardari. It did not show progress on cases against sitting Prime Minister. It could not provide evidences against Tauqir Sadiq accused of siphoning of 830 million. Nab has just become a burden on national exchequers. It should be disbanded as soon as possible
