SHAFAQNA PAKISTAN (Shia News Agency)
In a bid to improve ties and a goodwill gesture Iran has offered Pakistan to conduct joint counterterrorism operations with eastern neighbors Afghanistan and Pakistan. Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli told reporters in Tehran that Iran was willing to “carry out joint operations against terrorists with Pakistan and Afghanistan inside their territory.”
It’s a very positive development for a country that has been facing influx of terrorism since long time. Though Pakistan military is inclined to purge country of terrorism yet commitment alone might not be enough because of porous borders with neighboring countries Afghanistan and Iran is a great hurdle in eradicating terrorism. In the past few months, armed groups have carried out several attacks against Iranian security forces along the volatile border with Pakistan and Afghanistan. On April 7, the Jaish al-Adl militant group killed eight border guards near the border with Pakistan in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchistan.
It is golden opportunity for Pakistan, who is luckily enjoying Afghanistan’s support to chase terrorist in Afghanistan. If Iran joins hand, it would help Pakistan to easily control border activities of terrorist and they could be easily targeted in the bordering area.
