Pakistan and Afghanistan relationship are marred with huge trust deficit. Due to this trust deficit both the countries are pole apart. During the Karzai regime, Afghanistan has started to build its ties with India. Rather than seeking arms deal with Pakistan, Hamid Karzai preferred India. Afghanistan has long been accusing Pakistan of interference in its internal matters and supporting terrorist’s elements in Afghanistan. This trust deficit led to cross border firing time and again. But after Ashraf Ghani assumed office of the President, there seems a paradigm shift in the relationship of both the countries. Pakistan’s news chief of Army staff General Raheel Sharif has played pivotal role in lowering the temperature on both sides. Afghanistan not only agreed to take action against TTP militants hiding in Afghanistan but also assured to take action against notorious TTP Chief and APS mastermind Fazlullah. But according to internal sources, the recent visit of COAS Raheel Sharif has some other perspective. Well learnt sources informed that COAS along with ISI chief were on visit to inform Ashraf Ghani that his life is under threat. Pakistan intelligence had credible information about it. Thus COAS Chief along with ISI chief flew Afghanistan to offer security to Ashraf Ghani.
It seems that Pakistan and Afghanistan are bridging their difference quickly, which is ultimately helpful for the security of the region.
