Rivalry among South Asian countries has unleashed a nuclear race in the region. West has always been concerned about nuclear proliferation in South Asia because if any nuclear weapon falls in the hands of terrorist, they could initiate third world war. Pakistan has always been under unwarranted criticism of western global powers for alleged proliferation of nuclear programme. Despite a well advertised recent nuclear deal with India that is actually on the path of nuclear procreation, American strategists like Simon Henderson the Baker Fellow and director of the Gulf and Energy Policy Program at The Washington Institute, have not yet discontinued their denigration about Pak-China cooperation and Pakistan’s close relationship with other countries labelling it nuclear proliferation. The visit by the Chairman of Pakistan’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee to Saudi Arabia for condolence of King’s death has also prompted concern in Washington and other western capitals. On the other hand after the civil nuclear deal with America, India and Sri Lanka have opened a new chapter in ties with a meeting between Mr. Modi and newly elected Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena also focused on nuclear deal. India’s offer of nuclear trade with Sri Lanka shortly after a deal with the US seems a baby step towards an extensive struggle to proliferate American nuclear systems. Thus West should more focus on India than Pakistan regarding nuclear proliferation. India’s frequent nuclear deals with every visiting head of state could deteriorate the issue of nuclear proliferation.
