The cold war era persisted for almost 30 years which finally ended at the end of USSR disintegration in 1989. USA successfully disintegrated USSR with the help of Pakistan and claimed to become the superpower of the world. But after Russia US is once again facing a challenge to its hegemony in the form of Chinese rising. Unlike Russia, China is not only focusing on defense but it has captured the world’s economies as well. China which surpassed the US economy last year in purchasing power parity terms and may do so in nominal dollar terms sometime in the second half of the next decade if present trends continue. With the rise of China, Putin has once again started assertiveness in international affairs especially on the issue of Ukraine it defied all the odds and did not care the economic sanctions. It is quite clear now that Russia under President Putin is no longer prepared to play a passive role in the face of NATO’s creeping expansion in Eastern Europe, especially in Ukraine where battle-lines have been drawn between pro-West and pro-Russia elements.
The most worrying thing for the US is that Russia and China are joining hands on several international issues, for example on the issue of Ukraine, China did not condemn Russia and warned US of economic sanctions on Russia. On several international affairs both the countries seems supporting each other’s view. Unlike Past US is definitely going to lose this cold war which also involves China this time. This time USA’s disintegration is on the cards.
