SHAFAQNA- IMNA: Built in the ninth century, St. Stepanos Church is located in the city of Jolfa, which based on the existing historical documents is the second most important Armenian church in Iran after Qara Church.

Unfortunately, the church seriously damaged due to a severe earthquake but it was restored during the Safavid era. This beautiful church is located in the heart of the mountains of the Jolfa-Azerbaijan border region, on the banks of the Aras River and on a high area called Maghard. Because of this Geographical location, it is called Maghard Abbey in late Armenian sources.

St. Stepanus Church in Jolfa, Qara Church in Azerbaijan and Zurzur Church are listed on the UNESCO World List.
