SHAFAQNA PAKISTAN (Shia News Agency)
Pakistan has been a victim of of its failed diplomacies unlike her arch rival India. India has been remained a successful country due to its strong diplomatic moves. India continued to build its ties with US, inked several MoUs including Civil nuclear technology agreement while being in Russian bloc but Pakistan despite standing pole a part from Russia could never win US trust. Similarly Pakistan’s weak ties within in region is also due to its failed diplomacy.
Pakistan would do well to take a leaf from Iran’s diplomatic ledger and learn a thing or two. Iran has finally broken the shackles of the deadlock that was holding down the nuclear deal talks after years of dedicated diplomatic strategy encompassed in diplomatic tactics. The sanctions have badly damaged the country. Tehran’s role in Middle East reconstruction becomes prominent in this backdrop of a changing relationship between both nations. Yemen is a hot potato. Javed Zarif, Iranian Foreign Minister’s visit to Islamabad and concurrence to resolve conflict in Yemen diplomatically is an acknowledgement of the prominent role Pakistan can play in bringing about such a settlement. Yemen issue is a diplomatic tightrope for Pakistan. It will do well to remember that Pakistan shares no borders with Yemen and Saudi Arabia, that it is Yemen that has been invaded not Saudi Arabia and ‘if Pakistan intervenes militarily in any country it will be allowing others the right of hot pursuit within her border as well.
At his point Pakistan needs to adopt a balance approach like Iran. Even after re-connecting with US, Iran did not abandon Russia. That’s why Russia sided with Iran when it came to Yemen. Now Pakistan should also adopt a balanced approach by taking both the countries along. Iran being an immediate neighbor carries its due weight while Saudis being long times strategic partners also need to be tackled. The only option Pakistan has to adopt such an approach that neither slides on any side and both the countries do not get aggravated.
