The text of the statement, published in response to the question of a number of the believers, is as follows:

In the name of God, The Most Compationate, The Most Merciful

The office of the Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Sistani

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu

In these difficult days when Iraqis have been exposed to the epidemic Corona disease like other countries, and in the shadow of the closure and restriction of many activities and even the ban on traffic in most areas, many more families have been added to poor families of the country, who once were relied on a family member to work to get sustenance, and now the door of livelihood has closed on them in the current situation, and most are in a difficult situation and providing the least of necessities of life, including food and other necessary supplies are no longer possible for them, what is the recommendation of the Religious Authority in this regard?

A group of Believers

In the name of God, The Most Compationate, The Most Merciful

Providing the basic needs of families affected by the current situation is primarily the responsibility of the relevant government factions, but in the light of their inadequate efforts, there is no solution except to turn to other parties capable of participating in this important task that is among the best of good deeds.

Working to this end, requires close collaboration between different groups:

Charities who are financially propertied, to the extent possible, should participate in this field and have the opportunity to enumerate whatever they do within their legal rights and observe the rules set in the way of spending and distribution of the budgets.
Merchants and traders who have foodstuffs and the like, should offer their goods at a subsidized price, without any increase.
A group of zealous youths should be volunteered to identify deserving families and deliver the materials allocated to them after coordinating with official factions and must do all preventive measures that protect them from being affected by the virus.
The owners of Hussaini’s Mawkibs, those who oversaw the supply of the requirements for the brave militants during the days of the war against ISIS, should put their activities in the way of supporting the affected families (along) with observing the above mentioned issues.

We ask God Almighty to reach out everyone’s hand towards whatever is good for all and to dispel the calamity from the country that He is Kind and Gracious.
Peace, mercy and blessings of God be upon you all.
