Shafaqna Pakistan: United States top infectious diseases’ researchers have claimed that the deadly coronavirus pandemic will end when 60% to 70% of the human population will be immunised to the virus, and this process will take two years to complete.

According to a recent report of researchers at the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP), there are three scenarios for how the coronavirus pandemic will progress in the coming months. In the worst-case scenario, a second and larger wave of infections will come in this fall and winter. The report suggested this is the most likely outcome, and all the affected countries need to prepare for it.

The researchers using the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic as a model, suggested that the COVID-19 outbreak will end in coming 18 – 24 months. “The pandemic likely won’t be halted until 60% to 70% of the population is immune,” the report claimed. It further said that the global pandemic may last until 2022.

“This thing is not going to stop until it infects 60 to 70% of people. The idea that this is going to be done soon defies microbiology,” Michael Osterholm, the report’s author and the director of CIDRAP, told American TV channel CNN.
