Shafaqna Pakistan: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced that it will hold countrywide sit-ins from August 16 to press its demands.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by JI Emir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman on Saturday, with party leaders from all four provinces and major cities participating via video link.
The meeting also decided to observe Independence Day on August 14 on a larger scale, prompting the party to shift the start of its planned sit-ins from August 9 to August 16.
Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said simultaneous sit-ins would be held across all four provinces on August 16, marking the launch of the party’s nationwide protest campaign.
He said that a sit-in with millions of workers will be held outside the Chief Minister’s House in Lahore, while sit-ins will be held outside the governor’s houses in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Balochistan.
He said the rulers must stop oppression and tyranny, and that they will be forced to retreat through sit-ins. On Friday, demonstrations were organised at 510 places, which was the voice of the whole of Pakistan, demanding that the levy be abolished and petrol be made cheaper.
The JI chief said when Jamaat-e-Islami raised its voice against IPPs, it demanded that the rulers accept its demands.
On the other hand, welcoming the defence agreement between Pakistan, Turkiye and Saudi Arabia, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said that this agreement will end our dependence on enemies. Qatar, Bangladesh, Iran, Malaysia and Indonesia should also be included in the defence agreement.
He said that if all Islamic countries join this agreement, a strong bloc will be formed.
