Shafaqna Pakistan: The United Nations has expressed deep sorrow and condolences following the deaths of 14 newborns in a fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital in Islamabad.
UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stephane Dujarric conveyed his deepest sympathies to the parents and families of the deceased infants, describing the loss of newborn lives as an unimaginable tragedy for their parents.
Dujarric said the United Nations was prepared to provide all possible assistance to the Pakistani government in the aftermath of the incident.
Saudi Arabia also expressed grief over the PIMS tragedy. In a statement, the Saudi Foreign Ministry conveyed its solidarity with Pakistan’s government and people during the difficult time.
Earlier, UNICEF also expressed sorrow over the tragic loss of at least 14 newborn lives following a fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital in Islamabad.
It said, “We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and all those affected by this devastating incident.
“Every newborn deserves a safe start to life, and every mother and child should be able to receive care in a safe, secure health facility.
“UNICEF calls for the urgent review and strengthening of fire prevention and safety standards across health facilities, to ensure that every mother and child can receive the care they need in a safe environment.”
