Shafaqna Pakistan: Iranian missile and drone strikes have inflicted “unprecedented damage” on US intelligence facilities and surveillance equipment across the Middle East, NBC News reported on Tuesday.
According to four people familiar with the situation, the attacks damaged buildings as well as intelligence-gathering equipment operated by the CIA and other US intelligence agencies.
The report said repairing or replacing the damaged facilities and equipment could cost billions of dollars.
The sources described the extent of the destruction as exceeding any previous damage suffered by US intelligence agencies.
Tensions across the Middle East have intensified since the United States and Israel launched joint attacks on Iran in February. Tehran responded by carrying out strikes in several regional countries where US military and intelligence assets are based.
Iran and the US signed a memorandum of understanding in mid-June under Pakistani mediation aimed at ending their war and reaching a lasting peace agreement.
Talks, however, have since broken down amid ongoing disputes over the memorandum’s terms and navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global energy exports.
