Khawaja Asif: Modi under strain over declining public image

Shafaqna Pakistan: Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has claimed that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is facing increasing political pressure as his domestic and international standing declines, particularly following what he described as India’s defeat in the conflict with Pakistan.

In a post on social media platform X, Asif said that personal criticism directed at him by Modi would neither resolve the issues facing the Indian leader nor restore his political reputation.

Referring to Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi’s remarks, Asif said Gandhi had questioned the authenticity of international honours and recognition received by Modi, suggesting they were either AI-generated or self-managed to project the image of a global statesman.

Asif further claimed that such controversies had instead reinforced what he described as Modi’s image as a “global con man.”

The Defence Minister said even ‘The Guardian’, a reputable newspaper, flagged the same issue and questioned the credibility of these awards.

He said Modi’s desperate measures to import fake laurels from abroad are an attempt to stabilize a reputation that is pathetically unstable at home.
