Pakistan remembers Fatima Jinnah on her 59th death anniversary

Shafaqna Pakistan: The 59th death anniversary of Madar-e-Millat (Mother of the Nation) Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah is being observed across Pakistan on Saturday with respect and reverence.

Fatima Jinnah played a pivotal role in the Pakistan Movement, working closely alongside her brother, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, in the struggle for an independent homeland for the Muslims of the subcontinent. Following the death of his wife in 1929, she became one of his closest companions and supporters, while also mobilising women to actively participate in the independence movement.

After the creation of Pakistan in 1947, Fatima Jinnah established the Women’s Relief Committee, which later became the foundation of the All Pakistan Women’s Association (APWA). She also made significant contributions to the rehabilitation and settlement of Muhajirs who migrated to the newly established state.

Fatima Jinnah is referred as the Madar-i-Millat or Mother of the Nation for her role in the Freedom Movement. She returned to the political forefront to contest the 1964 elections at the age of 71 against the military administrator, Ayub Khan.

Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah was born on July 31, 1893 in Karachi and passed away on July 9, 1967. Fatima Jinnah, is still remembered for her passionate support for civil rights, and devoted struggle in Pakistan Movement.
