Shafaqna Pakistan: United Nations Secretary-General candidate María Fernanda Espinosa called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister House on Monday.
Welcoming Espinosa, the prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to multilateralism and underscored the importance the country has consistently attached to the United Nations.
Reiterating Pakistan’s support for the UN, Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed hope that the organisation’s next leadership would continue to advance its three core pillars in a balanced manner by upholding the principles of the UN Charter, ensuring the faithful implementation of UN Security Council resolutions, respecting international law and treaties, and strengthening international cooperation among member states to promote global peace and prosperity.
Ms Espinosa thanked the Prime Minister for receiving her and praised Pakistan for its leading role in recent regional peace efforts as well as its active participation in the United Nations over the past many decades. Ms.Espinosa had previously visited Pakistan in 2019 in her capacity as President of the United Nations General Assembly.
