Shafaqna Pakistan:- Authorities in India have moved to demolish much of Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, founded by prominent Muslim leader Mohammad Ali Jauhar, alleging that 38 of the institution’s 40 buildings were constructed without legal approval.
Located about 200 kilometres (132 miles) from New Delhi, where widespread student protests over education reforms recently led to the resignation of a government minister, the university has become the centre of a growing protest. Students, alumni and local residents have launched an indefinite sit-in to oppose the planned demolition of 38 of the campus’s 40 buildings.
Named after a freedom fighter who fought against British rule, the university was founded by prominent Muslim politician Azam Khan in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh. Khan established the Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust in 2003, which oversaw the university’s establishment three years later.
