Shafaqna Pakistan: Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem is set to make his return to competition at the Lausanne Diamond League, where he will renew his rivalry with India’s Neeraj Chopra in the men’s javelin throw.
The Diamond League meeting will be held in Lausanne, Switzerland, on August 21, with both South Asian stars featuring among a strong field of the world’s top javelin throwers.
Nadeem’s presence on the entry list has sparked excitement among Pakistani athletics fans, while Chopra’s participation adds further anticipation to one of the season’s most eagerly awaited javelin contests.
The competition is expected to provide another high-level test for Nadeem as he continues his international season. Chopra will also be looking to make his mark against a strong field in Lausanne.
Strong javelin field
The Lausanne event is expected to feature several prominent names from the international javelin scene, including Sri Lanka’s rising star Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage and Grenada’s Anderson Peters.
Nadeem and Chopra have developed one of the most closely followed rivalries in international athletics, particularly after the pair shared the podium at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
At the Paris Olympics, Nadeem won the gold medal with a throw of 92.97 metres, while Chopra claimed silver with 89.45 metres.
Their expected appearance in Lausanne will therefore attract attention well beyond athletics, particularly across Pakistan and India.
