Petrol price rises Rs2.97, diesel slashed Rs32.63

Shafaqna Pakistan: The government on Wednesday increased the price of petrol by Rs2.97 per litre while significantly reducing the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs32.63, according to a Petroleum Division notification.

Under the revised rates, petrol will now be available at Rs337.51 per litre, while HSD will be sold at Rs363.06 per litre. The new prices will take effect from Thursday, August 20.

The government continues to levy Rs114 per litre in taxes and duties on petrol and Rs100 per litre on diesel.

The latest reduction has brought the HSD price sharply down from its peak of Rs520.35 per litre, recorded on April 3.

The price had risen from Rs281 per litre after the US-Iran war began on February 28.

Earlier in the day, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik has said the government was fully aware of the difficulties being faced by the public and was making every effort to provide relief.

“The difficult times will certainly end,” the petroleum minister said, adding that the government was working to resolve public issues and provide targeted relief.

He said the government had already provided relief through targeted subsidies and had not abandoned the people during the current difficult circumstances.
